Luke Thompson, Ajax Building Corporation

Where do you work and what is your role?
I work at Ajax Building Corporation, my position title is Project Engineer, I also act as Student Liaison for the New FSU Student Union project which involves keeping students informed and involved with the building of the new Union.

Tell us a little bit about your background?
I grew up in Titusville, FL I went to Eastern Florida State College where I completed my AA and was subsequently accepted into FSU in 2015 where I completed my Bachelors in Finance summer of 2017. I was offered an internship at Ajax that summer and was hired later that Fall, being able to build something tangible that you can stand back and look at and think “I helped build that” is very rewarding and is the reason why I enjoy what I do.

Where are you from?
I was born in Tallahassee and raised in Titusville

Why Tallahassee?
Both of my parents attended FSU naturally I grew up a Nole with a strong desire to go to FSU, I stayed because I found a job that I enjoyed based in Tallahassee and really enjoy the community here.

What do you like about Tallahassee?
There are plenty of things I enjoy about Tallahassee, football games, the beautiful parks, The Red Hills Horse Trials, the emerging small businesses throughout Tallahassee, the musical venues that attract artists to come and perform here and the people that I’ve been around (for the most part) have a very warm small town kind of hospitality and friendliness that you don’t find in bigger cities.

What’s on the top of your Tallahassee bucket list?
The top of my Tallahassee Bucket List right now is going to Birds Oyster Bar, I will report to the Access group my experience once I’ve gone.

What’s the best part about Access? Why/how did you get involved?
My favorite part of Access is meeting new people that work in the community I work and live in, making friends, and learning new things at the Power lunches and Round Tables, Ajax encourages it’s young employees to get involved in the community and has connected us with these events.

Favorite Access event and why?
It’s hard to pick a favorite event but I would have to say the Access Socials.

Organizations you’re involved in? (Member, volunteer, leadership position, etc.)
On top of Access Tallahassee I’ve recently joined the Young Leaders Society or YLS, which is an outreach/volunteering group through the United Way
