Charee Williams, United Way of the Big Bend
Charee Williams is a major gifts associate for the United Way of the Big Bend. Her job as a fundraiser is to connect United Way contributors with the agencies they are supporting. But the Tallahassee-native says she also was interested in connecting with other young professionals with an interest in growing professionally and growing the community – so she joined Access Tallahassee.
She knew immediately that Access was a good fit. “In addition to networking, the biggest benefits of membership are the opportunities for professional development,” Williams said. “I have really improved my communications skills. I am naturally shy, but now I feel like I can walk into any room and say, ‘Hi, there.’ I also love programs like the Power Lunches that put me in front of different community leaders.”
The Access program plays an important role for young people early in their careers, according to Williams. “Access is access to the community – it opens doors to everything, including opportunities to better yourself. It is an entry-level approach to moving your career in the right direction. Until you reach a comfortable level in communicating with other generations, Access gives you a step up with others your age to grow and network and build your confidence.”
